Flower Delivery with Love
For the Love of Flowers: A Family Business
Rosamunds florists was opened over 20 years ago by Ros Chamberlain. She built the business with the focus on quality. Rosamunds was one of the first florists in Durban to install a walk-in-fridge to ensure freshness and quality. Rosamunds Florists still boasts customers who have been buying flowers from them since those early years – a testament to the high standards established from the start.
A registered Interflora agent
Ros soon became involved with Interflora and she and Ken (her husband) were long standing members in the KZN Interflora committee. Her parents were keen gardeners and it was not long before her mother was providing anthiriums. Her father had an extensive orchid collection because of this, Ros was able to provide specialist blooms. As the business grew, so did the need for a book keeper. Ken’s mum filled this role for many years and customers from that time will remember her immaculate handwritten accounts.
Growing a love of flowers
It was not long before Ros’s children were teenagers and also part of the business. Barbara’s first job was serving behind the counter during holidays and special days such as Mothers’ Day.
Rosamunds’ florist: Barbara (Barbie) Kemp
From the time she could hold a pair of scissors, Barbara has been making things. She is a keen seamstress, making a number of wedding dresses in her younger days. She qualified as a Primary School teacher and spent a number of years teaching in Margate before joining Ros in the business.
She has three children, all of whom have inherited her creativity. They have competed in the children’s section of the Pavilion flower show an number of times, often achieving a place position.
Interflora Designer of the Year
Barbara’s first floral art training was with Di Wayne, who won Best On Show at the International Flower Show staged in Durban. Barbara went on to compete in the Interflora Designer of the Year competitions, winning KZN Designer of the year. She now combines her design expertise and her teaching skills and is a qualified Interflora Trainer. She visited Zimbabwe last year as part of an Interflora Team to facilitate training workshops.
